"But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." 1 Corithians 15:57
From Shaq Soda to water balloon batting practice and everything inbetween, Fellowship of Christians Athletes Urban Baseball Camp 2015 was a week to remember.
The four day camp held was at the Carver YMCA from May 26-29 at 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Overall camp was perfect way to begin the first week of summer for all the 5-14 year old boys and girls who participated.
"YES!!!", said the campers in a resounding fashion when asked by FCA Urban Baseball director Brent Slade if they had fun this week.
Throughout the week campers learned the fundamentals of the game of baseball such as catching and throwing, fielding, base-running and hitting. In total about 50 campers participated in four different age groups.
The Reds, 5-6 years old kids, were coached by Slade. During camp this group specifically went through drills to shuffle their feet.
The Cubs, 7-8 year old kids, were coached by Fred Jones. This group learned basic base-running skills such as how to round the bag at first base.
The Panthers, 9-11 year old kids, were coached by Chris Sherwood and Nick Paparelli, or coach Pepperoni as the kids dubbed him. During the week this group learned the "Elvis" to help the kids properly turn their hips when hitting a baseball.
The Braves, 12-14 year old kids, were coached by Devon Lemon. This group learned baseball on a deeper level and went beyond the fundamentals and moved into situation baseball as well.
Beyond baseball the campers learned about Jesus Christ as well.
Throughout the four days, campers were continually reminded how we all are undefeated when we put our faith in Jesus. He died for our sins and through that death on a cross we are given the victory.
Each day a devotional was given by FCA staff Slade or Sherwood. The highlight for campers came on the last day when Sherwood illustrated how "Faith beats Doubt".
